History
Between 1525 and 1560 the mediaeval stronghold was changed into a fortified but homely Renaissance palace.
In 1520 the castle no longer met up to the representative and military requirements of the times. In contest with the Counts of Ysenburg-Büdingen or the Knights of Hutten it seemed necessary to modernize the castle, converting it into a self-contained and comfortable Renaissance palace which was nevertheless capable of defending itself. For this reason it could be termed as a fortified palace.
From the massive tower in the south-east there was a wide view over the town and the surrounding countryside.
